Charities and Not-for-Profit Organisations
AGP’s Charities and Not-for-Profit team comprises of experienced audit, accounts and tax specialists providing advice and services to clients ranging from small local organisations to large national networks.
We carry out many Audits and Independent Examinations for local and national Charities and understand that the requirements of these organisations can differ significantly to commercial entities.
The regime for charity accounts’ inspection differs to that for commercial businesses due to the increased level of public interest involved. The trustees of all registered charities must produce a trustees’ annual report and accounts each year. The requirement for an Audit or Independent Examination is dictated by the Charities Act 2011 (and also the Companies Act 2006 for corporate charities). An audit may also be required if your governing document, a funder or the Charity Commission requires it.
In addition to helping you meet these regulatory requirements through an Audit or Independent Examination, we also offer accountancy services such as statutory accounts preparation, bookkeeping and software advice, payroll and VAT return preparation. Many of our smaller Charities do not have a full-time finance team in place and rely on us to help them meet their financial responsibilities whilst also providing support and guidance to their Trustees and Volunteers.
We also work with several Clubs and Associations and carry out audits under the Co-operative and Community Benefit Societies Act 2014.

An audit provides a high level of independent assurance of the financial position and results of an organisation. This gives shareholders confidence that the reported performance of the business is accurate as well as providing external users with certainty that the accounts show a true and fair view. An audit lends credence to the company accounts in a number of ways.
